Membr Expands Executive Team, New CIO & COO Appointed

Following a successful few years of growth, we are excited to plan for the future of Membr and start the next chapter with a new CIO & COO on board.

We are delighted to welcome our new Chief Information Officer (CIO), Mark Smith, to team Membr and announce that Deborah Starr is joining the Executive team as our next Chief Operating Officer (COO)!

Meet Mark

Mark brings extensive technology and commercial knowledge having worked in senior roles in organisations including NEXT, Morrisons, KCOM, Flybe and Target Express. His impressive career includes the titles of Technology Director, Head of Design and Delivery, Director of Online Services, Head of Software Engineering and Programme Director. He has been involved in both defining and delivering technology strategies and solutions across multiple industry sectors.

Mark has significant experience in delivering solutions to enhance the ‘customer journey’ and to ensure that customers are engaged and connected. His biggest achievements have involved business transformations utilising technology to provide greater benefits to customers.

“I’m excited to be joining Membr as CIO and looking forward to contributing to the strategy of the company and ensuring the organisation has effective, scalable, secure and efficient technology to execute the strategy and support our customers.”

In his free time, Mark is a DIY enthusiast and likes to keep up with his handyman skill. He also has a keen interest in sport, particularly Soccer and Rugby having represented Bradford City, Halifax Town and Doncaster Rovers and Bradford Bulls.

Meet Deborah

Deborah is no stranger to the team, having already worked as Financial Controller for a couple of years. Starting out in private practice and progressing to management in a top 10 firm, with clients from every end of the world, her career in Accountancy has exposed her to many different experiences. The last few years of her career, prior to joining Membr, were  focused on building an Outsourcing team based in Liverpool. This was all about working with clients to map their business functions and help them build in efficiencies. It was then that her love of a process was born.

“Membr challenges me to think out of the box and constantly question the status quo – can I be better,  can we be better? As part of the executive team, I will continue to focus all my efforts on building an infrastructure that supports growth globally.”

Deborah says she’s a regular at the gym and that she runs with her dogs, but not for the love of exercise. Mainly so she can eat cake and we can certainly relate!

Jack Malin, Founder and CEO of Membr, commented on the team’s expansion:

“As we mature as a company we are delighted to be able to bring Mark and Deborah to the executive team. Being able to attract such fantastic talent to add to the already amazing team we have at Membr is going to be invaluable to the future of the business.”

On that note, we’re excited to see what the rest of 2021 has in store for us!
